I called the exchange to send you a cable
But found an operator who wasn't quite able
To take my message or spell your name
So we had to start all over again.

But then I resorted to "Sugar", "Able", "Dove"
"Orange", "Monkey", "Nuts", and ended with Love
By the time we were finished I had started to shout
And the operator seemed to be quite worn out
So he read back the message from the start to the end
But it wasn't the one I had asked him to send.
